FAQ

Your Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is it a two-hour consultation/ initial appointment? What tests are done on the day of my first appointment?

A: The length of the visit is variable depending on why you are visiting the specialist. For younger children (under 4 ½ years old), the visits are usually shorter than 2 hours.

For children older than 4 ½ years old, there may be multiple breathing or exercise tests being performed at the first visit that can take up to 30-45 minutes to complete. The physician will then review the results with you on the day of the visit. This time span is not including the initial history and physical done before any testing is even performed!

In addition, Dr. Price and Dr. Bala are often the 2nd or 3rd (or sometimes even more) specialist seeing the patient. They both take a very comprehensive and detail-oriented history at the first visit to ensure nothing has been missed!

Q: Why can’t I have hot dogs the day of the appointment?
A: One of the breathing tests we may perform on your child measures nitric oxide and food high in nitrates may interfere with this test.
Q: Why must I wear comfortable clothing and sneakers to the appointment?
A: Depending on why your child is coming in to see the doctor, he/she may need to have an exercise test on the day of the appointment. If this is the case, the child may have to run for a prolonged period of time in order to reproduce his/her symptoms.
Q: Do you perform chest X-rays on sight?
A: Not every child who visits us needs a chest x-ray (in fact, most do not). If you do need a chest x-ray, we usually refer to one of several radiology centers in the immediate vicinity of the office that have a PEDIATRIC radiologist review the x-ray.
Q: Do you perform rapid strep or flu tests?
A: Yes, we will have rapid testing for both if we think it is clinically appropriate.
Q: What is your late or no-show policy?

A: Our office tends to run on time. Patients that arrive late, new or established, may be asked to wait until the next opening in our schedule or asked to reschedule. We ask for your consideration on this matter and that you contact the office if you are running more than 10 minutes late.

If you cannot keep your appointment and would like to reschedule, please contact our office at (516)488-7575. We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If we do not hear from you at least 24 hours before your appointment, a $50 fee will be applied to your account.
